Being winemakers in the heart of the wine country, as well as avid travelers, this young couple wanted their house to reflect both their Napa roots and as well as their upscale, modern taste. Changing the wood floors to a wide plank, dark wood floor, painting the house in cool gray tones, and installing black shutters set the scene for a dramatic home. Textural carpet and rugs soften the space. Their tall 8’ traditional 6 panel doors got repainted jet black to add to the drama. Use of steel, and wine barrel staves in the built-in entertainment center as well as the vine installation are a nod to their passion. The furniture dances between rough and chic, using leather, hides, and distressed woods, with high-fashion tufting, acrylic, and shiny chrome and brass. Custom “his and her” sectionals were designed by K. Kelly Interior Design, mirroring one another, giving the space balance and symmetry. A collage of photos and keepsakes from their travels are showcased high behind the sectionals, making for a dramatic installation, and provided subtle sentimentality and personalization without having their photos plastered all over the walls. This house is a perfect reflection of their agricultural and jet-setting lives and is a tantalizing home to return to.
